San Diego is the second largest city in California and the seventh largest city in the United States. Population as of 2006 in the San Diego area was 1,256,951 with the median age being 34.4 and the household median income was $56,335 making it attractive for new families and the up and coming young executives. The average family size in San Diego is 3.33.
The median home price for the San Diego area was $362,750 in July 2009 which is down about $40,000 from a year ago. As in most communities across California, there are more homes on the market then there are buyers. Homes may be on the market for 60 to 90 days. There are a number of choices for you when it comes to your health and the University of San Diego Medical Center is one.They have roughly 13 locations across the San Diego area for treatment, outpatient care and emergency facilities. Rady Children´s Hospital is the only pediatric trauma center in the region and not only has a Cancer Treatment center locally, but is a leader in treatment and research for children´s diseases. The children´s hospital is the only teaching and training pediatric hospital in all of San Diego.
Some of the top employers in the San Diego area are Jack in the Box with its corporate office in San Diego and 45,000 employees, Petco Animal Supplies, with 15,000, Cubic Corporation with 8,700 and Qualcomm Incorporated at 7,400. There are two major parks and recreation areas in the city of San Diego. Balboa Park which includes the famous San Diego Zoo
and is one of the largest urban cultural parks in the United States. Balboa Park is home to 15 major museums, performing arts theatre, and lush gardens. They have numerous events for the whole family throughout the year.
Torrey Pines State Reserve is much the same as it was before San Diego was even developed thanks to the vision of a few of our forefathers. 2000 acres of wild natural terrain. There are more then 8 miles of hiking trails, visitor center and guided nature walks. You can go to the website to download a map of the unique trials. One of the ways they keep the park so well kept is no food is allowed in the area and no food or drinks are sold anywhere on the land. Hikers are encouraged to bring plenty of drinking water! 
The public schools in San Diego have the second largest district in California and it is over 150 years strong. The San Diego School District was recently awarded a 2.25 million dollar grant from the California Department of Education for technology for Science Education. They have a huge volunteer base with approximately 70% of the volunteers helping directly in the classroom.
The San Diego Public Library has over 37 locations and plans are underway for a new main library which is scheduled to be complete in 2009. You can go to their website to see all the new locations and events the library continually offers its patronage.
